I'm struggling to decide between the Whites Dual Field and Garrett Sea Hunter II for the low tide and shallow salt water. The Sea hunter seems the more robust of the two, with it's tough construction and isolated battery compartment, but I am wondering if the 8 inch coil is too small for depth and ground coverage compared with the Whites 12 inch?
Debating on the White's Surf PI Dual Field vs. the Tesoro Sand Shark. Anyone have any thoughts? The Dual Field is a heavier machine and the warranty is only two years vs. lifetime with the Sand Shark, but I would not be surprised if it is the more sensitive and deeper machine. I am not familiar with the Sea Hunter or the Dual Field, but I have owned some of the detectors mentioned in the postings: Ace 250, Whites Surf PI, Whites BHID and BHID300, and Excal-2. The Ace 250 may not work well on wet sand but it is a great machine (and fast) for land and dry sand. The Whites Surf PI, I had 2.5 years ago and it did not leak.

Hi Beachcomber. I honestly can't compare the White's to the Sov because I have never used a Sov. I do own an Excal and have used a 15" WOT on it and can tell you in confidence that the Dual Field does go deeper. I find,under my hunting conditions, that the Dual Field is more stable than the PI Pro.
Buy a Whites Surf Pi dual field for $450-500 from a friend of a friend (it's a 2017 model if that makes any difference) I live close to the beach and wanted to start hunting the sand more after pulling some gold the other day with my CTX.
